CANYON, Texas (KFDA) - The Canyon Eagles defeated district foe West Plains in game one of the regional quarterfinals, 8-7, at Wilder Park at West Texas A&M.

Entering the bottom of the seventh inning, the Eagles were down 7-6. Jacob Burris hits an RBI single scoring two runs for Canyon to walk it off.

Burris lead the way for Canyon at the plate. The center fielder drove in four runs and went 3-for-4. Beau Boehning was right behind him finishing a perfect 3-for-3 in the batter’s box and two RBI.

Noah Sanchez captured the win on the mound for the Eagles in his 2.1 innings of relief. Sanchez gave up one hit, no runs and retired two batters.

For West Plains, Garrett Hamilton and Julyen Aguilera finished going 3-for-4 at the plate. Both batters also drove in three runs a piece. Ethan Bentley and Bryton Bertrand both ended the night going 2-for-4 in the batter’s box.

Aguilera was created the loss for the contest in his one inning of work. Aguilera gave up three runs on two hits.

Game two of the best-of-three series is set for Friday night at 6 p.m. back at Wilder Park.
