MIDLAND, Texas (KOSA) -Two lucky Midland ISD students were awarded brand-new cars today.

Both students were awarded for their commitment to attendance throughout the school year.

Students eligible for the drawing earned entries each time they attained perfect attendance during a six-week grading period.

They were also required to maintain a minimum overall attendance rate of ninety percent.

Twenty students from both Midland Legacy and Midland High qualified for the drawing because of their attendance.

The winner of Midland High was Albany Solis.

“I am feeling so excited today because I have been joking about it all day that I was going to get the car, but I did get the car so manifesting works.” said Midland High school student Albany Solis.

She was motivated to come to school, so she doesn’t fall behind on her schoolwork.

Her new car will help her get to all of her extracurriculars.

“I think it’s going to be a good way to get around places. I have to get around to a lot of places like cheer practices, football games, and school so all those school-related activities will be good and useful for that.” said Albany Solis.

Since the creation of this program, the average attendance rate at both schools has increased by about one point seven percent.

Both schools combined are home to more than 4,700 students so that small percentage adds up to about forty additional students per day, per campus.

“At Midland High we are over a percentage point. The importance of getting kids to school and just large as our schools are a percentage point means an enormous number of students so more students in seats and the excitement to get to reward those with a car.” said Midland High School Principal Jennifer Seybert.

The school districts are also funded based on the average daily attendance at their schools.

This means that the more students are in class, the more money stays in Midland to support the schools.

“I think we discussed that kids can’t learn if they are not in the seats and also school is funded through attendance. attendance models set by the state. Attendance is critical.” said Midland Legacy HS Principal Mich Etzel.
