AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The UIL state tennis tournament and state one act play performance are both happening this week. Tennis is being held in San Antonio and one act play is in Austin. For four Randall students, they have qualified to compete in both.

Bryson Shelton and Dax Betzen qualified for boys’ doubles in tennis. Kynley Craddock and Gabby Dishong qualified for girls’ doubles. All four athletes are part of the one act play team that qualified for the state performance.

Needless to say, Shelton, Betzen, Craddock and Dishong are about to have a busy next three days.

“We are here in Austin tomorrow half of the day and then we are going to travel down to San Antonio and then we are going to hopefully play two matches on Thursday. Then drive back to Austin, do our one act which we are hopefully performing at 9:00, and then we are going to do our awards and then drive back to San Antonio hopefully to play in finals,” Craddock said.

Juggling school work, tennis practice/matches and one act play practice/performances can be a lot for any student to handle. These four have found ways to make it work, and are now competing on the biggest stage, state.

“We put a lot of time and a lot of effort into every single thing we do. We spend literally most of our time at school, even on weekends. Every other weekend we have rehearsal and we take all that extra time and put as much work as we can into it,” Shelton said.

The most important thing is getting rest and staying hydrated. The next few days will include a lot of traveling and a jam-packed schedule.

“We are drinking a lot of water, because we are not used to the heat for the humidity. We are just going to make sure that we rest as much as we can, and we are prepared for this,” Dishong said.

Craddock and Dishong will play their quarterfinal match on Thursday at 10 a.m. If they win, they will play in the semifinals at 4 p.m. The finals will be on Friday at 11 a.m.

Shelton and Detzen will play their quarterfinal match on Thursday at 12 p.m. If they win, they will play in the semifinals at 4 p.m. The finals will be on Friday at 11 a.m.

The one act play state performance for 4A starts on Thursday. Randall is in session two that starts at 6:30 p.m. They are listed to go fourth out of the four groups in session two.
