CANYON, Texas (KFDA) - On Tuesday, the Canyon ISD announced in a press conference that Trevor Johnson has been promoted to the Randall High School boys basketball head coach. Johnson has been an assistant under former head coach Leslie Broadhurst for 10 years. Coach Broadhurst announced his retirement eight days ago after 36 seasons. Broadhurst being the only boys basketball coach the program has ever had.

“It is an incredible day. It is something that I didn’t know was ever going to happen, but I am really happy it is finally here,” Coach Johnson said. “I am so thankful for Coach Broadhurst for giving me this opportunity to be the next head coach at Randall High School.”

Johnson has been Broadhurst’s right-hand man for many of Randall’s successful seasons. Including the past two seasons when the Raiders made back-to-back state tournament appearances.

“It’s his loyalty,” Coach Broadhurst said. “He has been in our system, that is the only system he has ever coached in. We are the lucky ones to have him and his loyalty. Randall basketball is in great shape. We have a great coach and some good players. It just thrills me for him to be able to be the guy that gets to coach Randall basketball.”
