MIDLAND, Texas (KOSA) -High school students can now get hands-on experience at the Midland Memorial Hospital.

Midland Memorial hospital and boy scouts of America started a new program called the medical explorer’s program so students can learn more about working in the healthcare industry.

This program is crucial for the healthcare industry, and it gives the platform for the next generation who wants to work in the medical field.

The program has been around for a year with thirty-five students enrolled.

It gives students an inside look of what the healthcare industry looks like and to get the exposure.

“This program is really going to help me like go into the health industry because it lets me see how and what they really do and how they work and is going to give me some more like knowledge in it.” said Medical Explorers president, Presley Forbes.

Students are able to get hands-on experience and to learn from healthcare workers.

They also have sessions to learn more about career paths in the healthcare industry.

“It just really helps them see how like the doctors and the nurses interact with each other and what they actually want to be when they’re older,” said Presley Forbes.

The program nurtures the pipeline for future healthcare workers to find jobs in the industry.

“Well hopefully develop that passion and drive to pursue healthcare careers once they become of age and they start getting out of high school and into college. We also have pipelines for our high school students to get involved and actually employed with the organization.” said Midland Memorial Hospital chief nursing officer, Kit Bredimus.

The program will give students an opportunity to choose which career path is best for them.

“Not everybody is cut out to be a doctor. they may not want to be a pharmacist, but respiratory therapy might be the job that suits the best. so what our goal is hopefully identify the career that will work best for our students.” said VP of Ancillary services at Midland Memorial Hospital Wes Barnt.

Midland Memorial Hospital is planning to have an internship program this summer to give students more one-on-one interaction in their selection healthcare fields.
