Family members of a 29-year-old Winnipeg woman who was found dead after being reported missing are thanking the public for their support.

In a statement sent Thursday, Denise Johnson, mother of Brittany Dawn Storey, thanked police for the speedy resolution to the investigation, as well as the community for their "overwhelming love and support" during the last few days.

The 29-year-old was reported missing on June 6. RCMP said Tuesday her body had been found in a vehicle submerged in the Molson area, about 60 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg. Her death was determined to be non-criminal, police said.

"As we remember Brittany, or Bridgett as she preferred to be called, we hold in our hearts the image of a beautiful young woman full of love and laughter," Johnson said in the statement.

"Her spirit will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her, and she will never be forgotten. Thank you all for your love, support, and kindness during this challenging time."

Storey was reported missing after she lost contact with friends with whom she had been on a call, police said last week. She was initially believed to be in the Rennie area and had reportedly told the group chat she had struck a tree, before the call was lost.

RCMP later said information led investigators to the Molson area.
