There are a number of organisations and websites that help and support children with cancer and their family and friends. Find out more about some of these organisations and websites on this page. 

Cancer Research UK information and support

Cancer Research UK is the largest cancer research organisation in the world outside the USA. We fund research on all aspects of cancer from its causes to prevention and treatment.

We are committed to producing high quality information for people affected by cancer. As well as looking at the information on this website you can call our nurse freephone helpline on 0808 800 4040. They are available from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Or you can send them a question online.

Cancer support and information organisations

The Children's Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG) work to coordinate national and international clinical trials. They also provide information about cancer for children and their families.

Children with Cancer UK is looking to improve survival rates across all types of childhood cancer. And support children and their families to live better with and after treatment.

This charity funds research projects at centres of excellence around the UK, with the aim to improve treatment for children and young people with cancer. It also organises free days out for families affected by childhood cancer and funds practical support to help families.

Young Lives vs Cancer is a charity that provides clinical, practical, financial and emotional support for children and young people and their families who are affected by cancer. You can chat to the social care team through their live chat. Or you can email or phone them.

A children’s charity based in Scotland. It is run by parents whose children have cancer. Gives information and offers a telephone helpline and fun events, plus practical support such as transport to clinics and family holidays.

Kids Cancer Charity provides telephone support and a range of other support services for children with cancer and their families. They offer bereavement support, befriending and self help parent support groups. Holidays and 'staycations' are also available.

The Childhood Cancer Parents Alliance (CCPA) is made up of parent run organisations that work together to support children with cancer. They also offer support and information to the parents of children with cancer.

Camp Simcha offers free services to improve the lives of Jewish children with serious illness including cancer. Provides family liaison officers and home support volunteers to help parents cope. Also offers trips and experiences, including special treats, outings, parties, family retreats and Camp Simcha USA.

Macmillan Cancer Support is a charity that gives practical, medical and financial support to people with cancer in the UK. Its helpline gives guidance on cancer and advice on benefits. It also publishes booklets about cancer and treatments. Information is available in other languages.

The Future Fertility Programme is run by a team of doctors, researchers and tissue bank specialists. They are part of Oxford University Hospitals (OUH). 

They aim to help children and young people at risk of infertility due to illness or treatment. 

The Oncology Guide provides information through films and animations about the different children’s cancers, common procedures and treatments. The procedure films are child friendly and can help your child understand what is happening. They also sign post to other charities who are on hand to help you things such as grants, disability badge applications, wigs, days out and much more.

Support and information for families with children with any serious or rare illness

Provides information on support services for families whose child or young person has a life-threatening or terminal condition, regardless of the disease involved. They have a live chat feature or you can contact them through their helpline or email service.

Information for children and teenagers

Along with a comic book line, Jumo Health produces other products such as podcasts, videos, and games. They are all designed to help children, their parents and carers learn more about their health condition.

Macmillan Cancer Support has a separate section on its website for teenagers and young adults with cancer. It offers advice and support on how to cope with cancer, and the chance to share experiences of cancer with other teenagers.

Provided by a charity called HopeLab, these games teach children about cancer. Research has shown that they can help children to cope with cancer and understand their treatment.

Teenage Cancer Trust is a national charity providing specialist units, expert staff, support events, education and information for 13 to 24 year olds diagnosed with cancer, and their friends and families.

Teenage Cancer Trust also work closely with healthcare professionals and researchers to lead the way on developing cancer care for teenagers and young adults.

Information on specific childhood cancers

This is mainly a research charity raising funds to help improve treatment for rhabdomyosarcoma. It covers the UK and US. There are stories about children and young people currently going through treatment, have had treatment in the past or have sadly died from the disease. This charity raises awareness, looks at some of the latest research they have funded, as well as providing a support network.

Blood Cancer UK funds research into leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma. It also provides patient information booklets and leaflets that you can download or order from their website.

This organisation provides information, support and counselling for people with primary bone cancer and their families. They also have a financial assistance grants service. They promote research into the causes and treatment of primary bone cancer, in particular osteosarcoma and Ewing sarcoma.

The Brain Tumour Charity is the world's largest dedicated brain tumour charity. It funds research, provides support and information services and raises awareness. It aims to reduce the harm brain tumours have on quality of life, and ultimately, to find a cure.

Lymphoma Action provides information and support for people affected by lymphoma. They provide a helpline service. They also offer online support meetings and a buddy service for putting patients in touch with each other. They run educational events and webinars.

A national support group for anyone who has lost the sight in one eye, through having cancer or for any other reason. They provide information, telephone support and booklets.

Tom’s Trust is a UK charity that provides mental health support to children with brain tumours and their families. They currently support families from 3 cancer centres but hope to expand to more hospitals in the UK soon. As well as providing support they also have a Toolkit for adults supporting siblings of children with brain tumours.
