19 Fan Reactions To "Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio"

THIS is how you make a Pinocchio movie!

Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio is a spectacular treat for the eyes, mind, and heart that will inspire thoughtful speechlessness.

Let's take a look at what the internet is saying:

    1. High praise from the King himself.

    2. It's a wondrous movie that captures the splendor of the original story.

Guillermo del Toro & Mark Gustafson’s PINOCCHIO is so much more than you’re likely expecting. It is every bit as dark, layered and gut punching as DEVIL’S BACKBONE & PAN’S LABYRINTH. So rare to watch a modern movie & wonder “Who let them DO this?” This one does that. True wonder.

    3. The movie is incredible.

As expected, Del Toro's Pinocchio was incredible. Some of the best character designs I've seen in a long while. The story had great pacing for the most part with heartfelt moments and a unique spin on the Pinocchio lore. Even got me teary-eyed at the end. One of the best of 2022

    4. Pinocchio is a good tool to differentiate lies from truth.

    5. Disney should take some lessons from del Toro.

Crazy how we got both the best and worst movies I've ever seen about Pinocchio this year. Guillermo's movie is a beautiful tale about a father and a son, discovering yourself, and the appreciating preciousness of life with the people you love. The other is Disney.

    6. It would have been absolutely gorgeous on the big screen.

Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio deserves to be seen in theaters, hard stop. It's a startlingly touching, emotional feat of film majesty that made me want to crawl into a fetal position by the end credits.

    7. Del Toro doesn't miss an opportunity to make a political statement.

Guillermo del Toro: "As Mussolini ascends to power in Italy, everyone around Pinocchio behaves like a puppet and obeys. It's the puppet that chooses to be disobedient, and through that disobedience, he finds his own morality, his own soul, and his own humanity" Pinocchio:

    8. This emotion is ubiquitous among all those who watched the movie.

wish u could post photos with letterboxd reviews so i can properly express how devastated guillermo del toro’s pinocchio has left me

    9. Truly! This movie is something else.

    10. There are lots of symbolism and metaphors in the movie.

Not an especially religious person myself, but the way GDT's Pinocchio uses a looming wooden crucifix to help Pinocchio interrogate why people hate and fear him hit me surprisingly hard https://t.co/ndJ4SB5DGJ

    11. This also made me laugh.

Usually I'm against celebrities being cast as voice actors just to have a name attached, but seeing Cate Blanchett cast in Del Toro's Pinocchio, as the monkey, who does not talk and just makes monkey noises the whole time, is extremely fucking funny

    12. It's a movie that has everything for everyone. Keep your eyes and mind open.

Del Toro and Gustafson’s Pinocchio rules. I saw someone saying “wow it’s not a kids film!” and I’m not sure what they mean. Its entirely appropriate, nourishing even! It’s so refreshing to see something not talking down to kids. And it’s just as funny and light as it is dark.

    13. I was afraid the falling axe may injure Geppetto.

This is one of my favorite examples of Del Toro's Pinocchio playing with tone. You have this big freak of nature wreaking destructive havoc around this broken man, & yet it's presented as a lighthearted, innocent musical number. And this contrast ends up being key to the story.

    14. Even the villain stood out.

I love Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, but but my personal biggest surprise is that the movie has given us something I'd never thought I'd say: Tom Kenny Mussolini

    15. A bigger budget doesn't always mean better quality.

It’s funny that Del Toro’s Pinocchio movie cost just over 20% of the budget it took to make the live action Disney+ version that came out a few months ago and it still manages to be a better movie in every single way possible lmao

    16. So good that some viewers are imploring others to watch this. I, too, am among such viewers.

Guillermo del Toro’s PINOCCHIO is a masterfully crafted & beautiful retelling of the classic tale. From the heartfelt narrative to the mesmerizing animation, it is truly a work of art on every level. Easily one of the best movies of the year & I implore you to watch it.

    17. The ending, albeit not sad, feels like a punch in the gut.

So glad people are loving the new Pinocchio. I was enjoying it well enough until the last 10 minutes or so, which shattered me and then put me back together again. What a perfect and profound ending.

    18. Another benefit of this movie: message of anti-fascism.

I love how aggressively anti-fascist Guillermo del Toro’s PINOCCHIO is! (most of films are which is why he rules) This film should be shown in every public school across the nation until the end of time. #PinocchioMovie

    19. Can you believe that it's Cate Blanchett's majestic voice behind this rambunctious monkey?

Just watched Guillermo del Toro Pinocchio and Spazzatura is best boy. May Spazzatura rest in peace. Long live Spazzatura!
