We Tried Brow Gel Tint To See If It's Worth Your Money

We're pretty much polar opposites when it comes to our brows. Courtney naturally has really fair, sparse brows, whereas Michelle has dark, thick ones.

Courtney: TBH, my relationship with my brows was pretty nonexistent until late last year. Unfortunately I had a pretty bad wax job a couple of months ago (think early 2000s brows), so I've been growing them out. On most days I leave them natural, but if I'm going out or have a date, I'll do my best to fill them in.

Michelle: My brows have been through it all – they managed to survive the bushy pre-pluck era AND the thin, overplucked stage. They're now at a shape I'm happy with, and so when I beat my face down, I like to make them look good. Usually I don't wear makeup during the week and have my brows natural, but even then they could do with a bit of filling in.

The product comes in four colours, ranging from dark brown to light brown (sorry, blondies). Courtney tried the light-brown one and Michelle tried the medium brown.

Courtney: It was a lot harder than expected to apply, as the formula is quite goopy. The instructions on the box weren't very helpful either, and I'd seen conflicting advice over how long to leave the product on for – YouTube ads told me two hours, while the box mentions 20 minutes. I ended up going with 20 minutes to be safe, but I really could've left it on for longer.

Michelle: When I opened the tube I was scared. The gel was really, really dark and quite thick. Plus it was a little difficult to actually apply in a nice, neat line because of the consistency. After about five minutes of painting on a new set of brows, I left it on for 20 minutes to set. Then I went in and peeled those suckers off, which was hella satisfying and, surprisingly, pulled no hairs out.

Courtney: I knew I had immediately made a mistake. My brows are pretty shapeless, so I definitely overapplied the product. I noticed later in the day that the ends of my brows hadn't come up as dark as the rest, so I had to redo them. It was also really easy to rub the tint off with just my finger, which I don't think was supposed to happen.

Michelle: I was actually surprised this worked so well, my skin was tinted and I was glad that I took the time to shape them properly. My only real issue with them was that the front of my brows were so dark. Normally when I fill them in, I fade them at the front. So I ended up using a Spooly to scratch at the front of them to try to remove some tint.

Courtney: Luckily the bits I had overdrawn were pretty easy to wipe off with a cotton bud and water. While it made my brows look darker in photos, it had an orangey undertone IRL, which didn't match my face or hair colour at all. Overall, it definitely stayed on a lot longer than I had expected, so that was a major plus for me.

Michelle: Lmaooooooooooo, it didn't last a full day. Look, I washed my hair so there was really no way I couldn't get my brows wet. But it completely disappeared by the end of day two. After my shower it was looking patchy but still passable. But it just slowly wore away during the day, so I guess it was fun while it lasted.
