BU Does the Marathon

The following was sent out to all undergraduate students on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from Dean Campbell-Foster.

Dear Students,

Spanning 26.2 miles from Hopkinton to downtown Boston – the world’s oldest annual marathon – is a marquee of spring in our city. Shortly after this spectacle of human endurance passes through our backyard, we will have sunny afternoons on the Beach, the frenzy of finals and the sea of caps and gowns on Nickerson Field. Take time this weekend to breathe and appreciate wherever you plant your feet. The end of the semester will be here before you know it.

I want you to have fun this weekend. I also want you to use the smarts that got you into BU in the first place. Please keep in mind:

  • Drink lots of water, enjoy plenty of food, and know your limits with alcohol.
  • Unless you are a shingle, stay off the roof.
  • Decks were not built to hold you and everyone you’ve ever met.
  • Keep your legs and arms inside the windows.
  • Blasting tunes in your yard isn’t what makes a good neighbor.
  • The City of Boston wants you to be safe, too!

Lastly, and most importantly, if you find yourself, or your fellow Terriers in need of support, we have a Good Samaritan Policyfor a reason.

As you make your plans, consider checking out the annual BU Does the Marathon watch party! Your fellow Terriers will be at the corner of Beacon St and Park Drive, cheering on the runners as they pass right through our backyard (mile 25.2, to be exact!). Swing by for some great swag and BU spirit.

If you are running the marathon this weekend – major props and respect from me to you!

Take care, and stay safe,
