Sir Simon Rattle & Timothy Ridout
Video on demand
A tribute to Rafael Kubelík: Sir Simon opened the programme, which was entirely dedicated to Bohemian-Moravian culture, with the complete second series of Dvořák’s “Slavonic Dances”. Janáček’s “Sinfonietta” was also one of the showpieces of the BRSO’s second chief conductor. In Martinů’s “Rhapsody Concerto”, the 29-year-old violist and fellow countryman of Rattle, Timothy Ridout, gave his BRSO debut.

Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks
With the 2023/2024 season, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra (BRSO) welcomes Sir Simon Rattle as its new chief conductor. He is the sixth in a line of distinguished conductors after Eugen Jochum, Rafael Kubelík, Sir Colin Davis, Lorin Maazel and Mariss Jansons. Soon after its founding in 1949, the BRSO developed into an internationally highly regarded orchestra. The orchestra regularly works with renowned conductors such as Herbert Blomstedt, Franz Welser-Möst, Daniel Harding, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Andris Nelsons, Jakub Hrůša and Iván Fischer. The orchestra tours throughout Europe, Asia and America
and can look back on numerous CD releases and awards, including the GRAMMY in the category “Best Orchestral Performance” and the “German Record Critics’ Award”. Simon Rattle has already added important milestones to the discography, including works by Mahler and Wagner. Further recordings, intensive promotion of young musicians and performances in the world’s music centres will accompany the collaboration. In a ranking of the ten best orchestras in the world published by the online magazine Bachtrack and compiled by the world’s leading music journalists, the BRSO recently came third.
