Post is a hotel restaurant, but not as you know it. Set within the former franking space for WA’s first General Post Office, it’s a crisp, clean space with plenty of natural light. A barn-like glass ceiling and splashes of greenery bring the outside in.

Oversized Italian dining tables provide plenty of room to sample the menu designed by executive chef Kim Brennan, who’s previously worked the pass at Lamont’s in East Perth, Becasse in Sydney and Notting Hill Brasserie in London.

Saffron and taleggio arancini is a good way to start, and a textbook-perfect rigatoni all’Amatriciana follows nicely. The pork cotoletta with sage, anchovy and Parmigiano Reggiano is a highlight. To finish off, choose classic tiramisu with a marsala-spiked zabaglione.

An Italian-heavy wine list complements the food, and you can expect a strong line-up of drops at a range of price points. There’s a focus on Tuscany, Campania and Sicily, with a smattering of WA entries for good measure. For cocktails, the Martini and Negroni are served with house twists.

Unlike most Italian restaurants in town, Post serves breakfast alongside coffee by local roastery Mano a Mano. Expect buttermilk pancakes with orange curd, vanilla mascarpone, blueberry and maple; fancy omelettes with fontina, chives and mushrooms; and grapefruit mimosas.
