Jeremy Honisett’s encyclopaedic knowledge of wine is matched only by his passion for it. At Seddon Wine Store he stocks more than 500 bottles, selling about 80 per cent to takeaway, and 20 per cent to drink on site. He’s also passionate about customer service and introducing people to new things – something he discovered after years playing in bands and working in pubs and retail on the side.

The store mostly stocks smaller producers, but Honisett tries to be objective, judging by quality rather than size. This goes for spirits as well. The list is smaller but no less impressive, and includes Four Pillars gin. The bar also has a small list of cocktails.

Enjoy your drink at one of 20 seats and, if the mood takes you, order some snacks. The focus is clearly on wine, so the food is limited to what can be pulled together behind the counter – cheese, cured meats, tinned fish, terrines and the like.

Honisett didn’t want the fit-out to look contrived or too self-consciously “designed”. The result is comfortable, with warm reds and wood tones. One wall is papered with a black and gold Art Deco print – an aesthetic growing into itself as the shop grows too.
