Rocket Wine is a slick wine bar and bottle shop that’s been welcoming Fairfield locals since 2022. The friendly neighbourhood spot calls equally for a quick knock-off drink, picking up some vino from the bottle shop, or settling in with a bottle and ordering takeaway from a nearby restaurant.

The well-stocked bottle shop is the focal point – with a wall of 600 wines, around 150 spirits (mostly whisky and gin), and 80 craft beers chilling in the fridges. You can buy a bottle of wine to take away or enjoy it in the bar for a corkage fee.

If you're sticking around, there's around 30 wines by the glass – served from a Coravin system that allows bottles to be poured without removing the cork. You might find Australian labels such as Victoria’s Dal Zotto, Clover Hill from Tasmania, WA’s Vallee du Venom and Dormilona, and Edenflo from South Australia alongside drops from France, Germany and Italy. Cocktails include a sharp Bloody Shiraz Spritz and a classic Pisco Sour, and there’s a handful of beers on tap, flights of whisky and agave, and a selection of non-alcoholic drinks.

For snacks, there’s a cheese fridge stocked with goods by local makers such as Maffra Cheese Co, Meredith Dairy and Milawa Cheese Company. Or, if you’re after something heartier, you can order in from nearby Fairfield restaurants and takeaway joints.

Jack Chin, Amy Poh (who also co-own Wines on Poath in Hughesdale) and venue manager Hamish Hesketh are behind the sleek wine bar, which seats around 60 people inside and out at recycled timber tables with olive-green seats, and a striking timber-clad bar that glows into the late evenings.
