The inspiration for Nana’s Kitchen Table came from Emma Semmler’s own nana. Her kitchen table was always the heart of the home, set with cutlery, homemade jam and chutney for tomorrow’s breakfast. Memories of family gatherings and nana’s homemade treats led the former Flinders Street Project pastry chef to create her own kitchen table.

Set within historic Waverley House, the quaint provincial decor contrasts with modern wooden benches and an open kitchen. The scents of home-style cooking draw customers inside to sip on Blk/Mrkt coffees while they peruse the modern-Australian menu. Savoury offerings might include housemade focaccia, loaded toasties, or poached Rohde's free-range eggs and slow-cooked lamb on sourdough. On your way out, grab one of Nana’s cakes, jams or chutneys to take home.

Seasonal fruit and veg come from Mount Barker Fresh Markets. Fresh herbs are grown in the courtyard garden, which kids can explore after having a freshly squeezed juice or ice-cold smoothie. The cafe also serves local wines and beers, adding a little more zing than you may remember at nana’s.
