| My location displays on my profile, and as far as I can tell there is no way
to disable it being displayed to everyone that visits your profile. This could
have very serious reprocussions if an online stalker or doxxer were to find someone's
brick link profile, and therefore where they live. I think there should at least
be an option to turn this off.

You would also get no results for stores who ship to you. Kinda the point of
an online marketplace.

You wouldn't know until you try to check out. It's like sellers stoplisting
other sellers; you don't know until you try to send them a direct message
or place an order in their store.

Your public profile could not need to show your location and the system still
know and just show to the seller.

Well, I know you are from Kentucky and like Discord.  I'm from Illinois.

In all seriousness, I do understand what you mean. In my other online communities
(on Discord for example) where a person is from is not shared or generally offered
up in conversation. But, we are doing commerce here, so location is quite relevant.

To add to this, BrickLink is also an older website (2000) and most stores are
run by hobby sellers and not big corporations. Amazon and other more modern ecommerce
websites don't always make it very clear where your package is coming from.

Only your location?? Thousands upon thousands of people that are into Lego and
have purchased from me already know my full address? (My return address is written
on the back of every package I send) Should I be concerned? Maybe if I don't
have sufficient security and plan on leaving the doors wide open when I go out!?

place an order before they can see the seller's exact address. Conversely,
sellers must actually receive an order before they can see the buyer's exact
address.
In fact, some non-paying buyers may actually be placing orders with the sole
intent to harvest seller data and no intent to pay whatsoever:

But BrickLink profiles are visible to anyone who can connect to BrickLink's
servers, no order required. You don't even need to create a BrickLink account.
Now, knowing someone's country and state or province doesn't give
you their exact physical location, but it does make it easier to track them across
the web. So, for those who aren't comfortable with that level of sharing,
sky is suggesting that BrickLink add some sort of privacy option like many newer
websites have.
For example, BrickLink could add the option hide all location information from
unregistered users or to only share location information between users that have
open orders with each other.
In fact, some places may already have laws that require BrickLink to protect
personal data such as a user locations, but BrickLink isn't known for regulatory
compliance and knowing how things work around here, I don't expect such a

There is some privacy in that you don't have your name displayed to unregistered
users. The user gets to choose their display name.

In some locations it is the opposite. Here, potential customers are meant to
be shown the name and address of a business before they place an order.

To be honest if someone here is concerned about stalker problems as the OP suggests
then if anything that is much more likely to come about due to a transaction
already having taken place and a disgruntled buyer or seller not happy with the
way they were treated by which point address details are already exposed. Therefore
the concerns the OP is expressing seem extremely disproportionate to me and you
have to start asking the question why should the OP feel so concerned? Does the
OP plan on upsetting someone or ripping someone off either here or elsewhere?
and even if they do why should they think someone is going to go to the extreme
lengths of wanting to track them down?
In this technological age there is a risk with everything we do yet in order
for things to be able to work effectively we cannot mitigate against every minor
risk just as we can't always mitigate against the risk of Fire, flooding,
tornados or an absolute crazy person coming after us with the intention to kill!

If you are worried about such thing, you do have to mail out orders that will
also have your address on it, or even buying items you need to supply your address,
so if you are worried that someone looks at your profile and see what state you
are in should be the least of your worries, i would worry about sending out packages
to everyone who orders from you, don't tell anyone that i am Indiana cause
i would hate to give out my address for an order to be sent to me and realizing
the seller or buyer stalked me lol.

| What kind of communities do you associate with where doxxing is a risk to you?
Maybe keep your BL info (email, username, pfp) separate from your social media
so it's harder to tie them together
Or just leave said communities that pose a risk to you being doxxed if you're
that worried about it
