Rod Chisholm

Roderick Neil Chisholm passed away at the Banff Mineral Springs Hospital in the beautiful mountains of his home with his family by his side, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was a devoted husband of 28 years to Linda and loving father to Robert (22), Scott (20) and William (18).
Rod is also survived by his mother Margaret Chisholm; brothers
Fergus (Elaine) and Allister; his mother in law Marjorie Wilson;
brother in law Dave Wilson (Stacey); sister in law Jennifer Wilson (Dean). Rod was predeceased by his father Ian Chisholm in 2013.
Born in Scotland, Rod’s family immigrated to Canada in 1975 making their home in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. After completing his degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan, Rod moved to Banff to pursue his love of the mountains and downhill skiing. Rod’s ski industry career spanning 36 years, began and ended at Sunshine Village, starting in 1985 as a gondola operator and culminating in his role as the Vice President of Mountain Operations and Maintenance. Rod’s coworkers and team at Sunshine Village were like family to him.
Rod also served on the Board of Directors for AEDARSA (Alberta Elevating Devices & Amusement Rides Safety Association) as the
Vice Chairman representing Passenger Ropeways.
Many who knew Rod would find him on the Banff Springs golf course or hiking in the Rocky Mountains. He was also an avid supporter of the many community teams that his sons participated in, ranging from alpine skiing, minor hockey and junior golf to rugby, basketball and volleyball. Rod was always proud to live and raise his family in Banff.
Special thanks to Alpine Medical Clinic and Dr. Stephen Shigeishi for his dedicated care of Rod, and to the wonderful nursing staff at the Banff Mineral Springs Hospital. The family would also like to thank Sunshine Village, the Banff Park Lodge all their friends and neighbours in the community that supported them during this challenging time.
A Celebration of Life was held at the Banff Park Lodge on Saturday, October 9, 2021.
Friends wishing to remember Rod are encouraged to make a donation, in his memory, to the Banff Mineral Springs Hospital, dedicated to Palliative Care or the Terry Fox Foundation for Cancer Research.
