The Bristol DA has posted video clips of a deadly confrontation by police with a 35-year-old Raynham man who came out of his apartment with “a loaded handgun” raised and ready.

The suspect, identified as Stephen Maclean, had been accused of “intimidating a witness in a Taunton District Court assault case where his girlfriend was the defendant,” the DA’s office said.

Police on Tuesday went to arrest him at his King Phillip Street apartment, where he “pointed a loaded handgun at officers at the doorway,” according to the DA’s office. Two cops shot at Maclean, and he was killed.

Raynham Police on Wednesday released the names of the two officers who shot at Maclean: Sgt. Frank Pacheco and Officer Jennifer Lang.

Both of the cops are 12-year veterans of the police department, and they have been placed on administrative leave per the department’s policies and procedures for officer-involved shootings.

“They will remain on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation by the Bristol District Attorney’s Office,” said Raynham Police Chief David LaPlante.

Following the shooting on Tuesday, cops rendered aid to Maclean and he was transported to Morton Hospital — where he was pronounced dead.

Maclean had been arrested a day earlier on charges of “witness intimidation and disorderly conduct” in the Taunton court case, the DA’s office said.

Probation officials asked police to detain Maclean due to the new arrest because he was on probation for an operating under the influence case. But a district court judge released him on personal recognizance.

Before the shooting, police were called to the apartment after receiving a call from Maclean’s girlfriend. Maclean had reportedly been acting erratically, was fired from his job after showing up for work intoxicated, and was being belligerent and aggressive, the DA said.

“When police arrived at his apartment, the deceased opened the door to his apartment and immediately pointed a handgun at the officers,” the DA’s office said.

The investigation is being conducted by prosecutors and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the district attorney’s office.
