Rosangela Teodoro greets customers at the meat counter with her big smile, rocking her cowgirl boots and rancher’s hat. She owns and runs Teodora’s Boucherie Gourmande, a European-style butchery she opened in Cohasset last year. The glass display case is brimming with hand-cut pasture-raised chicken and pork, and sumptuous meats: hormone-free and some grass-fed, including American wagyu New York strip steaks, marbled ribeyes, French-cut racks of lamb, Teodoro’s homemade sausages and meatballs, and stuffed mushroom burgers ready for grilling. She sources her meat from small herds raised without antibiotics, primarily from New York farms that value transparency and animal respect. Having grown up on a large cattle farm in central-western Brazil, she learned the trade from her father, who taught her to honor the land and commit to ethical, sustainable farming. Now, she is the third generation to run the ranch, albeit from afar by phone. “I try to preserve the traditions as my dad would want,” says Teodoro. “And not to waste and utilize the whole carcass.” Beyond meats, the shop also offers fresh produce, prepared side dishes, and specialty foods like pasta, chips, pickles, and sauces, all from small producers. The place is a nostalgic homage to her roots, adorned with a mural of Teodoro’s father, Manoel, adorable cow paintings, and a barn door. The horns used to call cattle hang from hooks. “I created the atmosphere of the ranch in the store,” she says. Small wooden cows and farming paraphernalia decorate the window. Soon, a full-sized, beautiful cow will be arriving to greet you at the door, not real of course. 750 Chief Justice Highway, Cohasset, 781-923-1104, teodoras-boucherie.com.
