Love Letters

We’ve spent Season 9 of the “Love Letters” podcast considering relationship help — where we find it, and how it can come from unexpected places.

Past episodes have taught us that the more important help can come from music. From traveling alone. From animals. Even from an ex.

For our season finale, we explore how great relationship advice can be embedded in stories. Some of the best life lessons are between the lines in fiction.

That’s why the cheapest form of help can be a library card, says Love Letters columnist and host, Meredith Goldstein.

The experts on the latest episode of the podcast are students affiliated with 826 Boston, a writing center for kids in Roxbury. The young people there recently published a book — “What If The World Needs You? Advice and Life Lessons from 826 Boston Students.” It’s a collection of all kinds of writing. Each piece is designed to help others, even if it’s subtle.

Worth mentioning: The introduction to the book is by Meredith, who talks about the fiction that has helped her throughout her life. On her list: “Bridge to Terabithia,” which taught her about imagination and grief, and “The Phantom Tollbooth,” which taught her how to get over boredom.

On this very special episode, three young students involved with the 826 book chat with Meredith about how to find advice in stories, and how reading can help a person decode the world.

It’s a very grown-up conversation that includes a discussion of “Dog Man” by “Captain Underpants” author and cartoonist, Dav Pilkey.

Today’s episode also features some bonus content about Meredith and Love Letters, in general. It’s a lot of fun.
