Great to walk around, but the closest “busy area” is severely touristy. Full of the sort of restaurants that never get repeat business so don’t really need to care. We took a full day archipelago trip with Stromma - great!
We took a full day archipelago trip with Stromma - great! I recommend at least one trip by boat - there are a lot of cheap ferries to choose from. One fare takes you a long way. We also took a trip to see the Viking remains at Sigtuna - well worth while. The guides on both trips were very enthusiastic and highly recommended. The palace is worth at least half a day, and the Vasa museum is great to visit. We missed seeing the parliament, though. Just wandering round the Old Town is perfect, and a drink by the habour was a great end to the day.

We loved Stockholm.
We loved Stockholm. The public transport is so joined up you can get anywhere by train, bus, tram or boat. We did the touristy stuff like vasa and Abba and the royal palace but we also went off the beaten track and found the 1912 Olympic stadium and the tennis club where Bjorn Borg had learnt his trade. The old town was beautiful, the changing of the guards a real treat. Everywhere you can hear Abba playing. It is an expensive destination, so be aware, but if you plan you can do a visit on a budget.AndrewUnited Kingdom
