The location, a short walk from the train station is excellent. Prestigious feel to lounge etc. Room and bathroom was very clean and staff were helpful. Beautiful garden area outside, although the view from my room was rather shabby.

We came a second time to the Novotel. Last time we did use the pool this time not. Breakfast is nice but one needs to book a tabel for a specific time the night before. Family room with a double and two single was the pull for us. It’s very compact, not only with all the beds but also the small WC & bathroom. It would’ve good to cave a handle to be able to get in and out more easily!
We had to ask to have the save fixed, the bedding changed and we had some hair in the shower. The hotel has seen better days, carpets in the room & generally. The parking cost extra and is next to the hotel. The is a nice walk into York along the canal from the hotel. Good windows- no noice and curtains that block the light out and aircon.
Ideally situated, family-run Wheatland Lodge Hotel offers good value accommodation, just a 5-minute walk from York Train Station and a 10-minute walk from York's historic centre.

Although abounding in reminders of the past, York is very much a city for the here and now, with excellent shops, bars and restaurants, many along the River Ouse. Surrounding it are the medieval city walls – the longest and best preserved in England – and many of the gates that once allowed access to the city.
Walk the walls for wonderful views towards the city and towering York Minster. Standing proud on a hill, this cavernous church is the seat of the Archbishop of York, the 2nd highest position in the Church of England.
A little south is The Shambles, a narrow street with medieval buildings that now house quaint shops. Going further back in time is the Jorvik Centre, a fascinating museum showcasing the city’s Viking remains. You can even have a go at archaeology yourself at the DIG excavation pits, with replica finds from York’s Roman, Viking, medieval and Victorian eras.
Other York attractions include the National Railway Museum, home to the Flying Scotsman and Mallard trains. Around 30 minutes’ drive away is Castle Howard, a stately home with over 1000 acres of grounds.
Leeds-Bradford Airport is the nearest airport, and there is a great range of hotels, B&Bs and guest houses in York and the outskirts available on Booking.com.

There were so many places to eat and drink the phrase "spoiled for choice"
was totally apposite. It was refreshing that so many were staffed by young people working whilst studying at York. This added to the vibrancy of the City.
The National Railway Museum was a total disappointment. The Flying Scotsman wasn't there and there was an apathetic atmosphere about the place. Thankfully it is free.
For Railway nostalgia and enthusiasm a visit to the North Yorks Moors Railway is highly recommended!

An attractive, friendly city with lots to see and do. The Jorvik Viking centre is, of course, not to be missed. I also enjoyed the chilled out sightseeing cruise on the Ouse with friendly, helpful crew. Second only to the Jorvik centre as a highlight for me was, surprisingly, York’s Chocolate Story. Imaginative, interactive, and both interesting and tasty! Much, much better than I had anticipated.

York is absolutely fantastic, such a beautiful city, shops are amazing. Loads of independent shops & loved walking round the shambles market. Spent loads of money & enjoyed every bit of it. Lots of fantastic restaurants to choose from, this is our second year & had to return to Yak & Yeti which didn't disappoint, food is so great. Rosa's Thai was also fantastic, would highly recommend. Breakfast at Bill's & 45 Vinyl are also a must. York is brilliant for a short city break, would highly recommend & we will definitely be back.

Nice city though I didn’t have enough time to go round the city. I ordered Cantonese food which was very nice just that I was disappointed there was no delivery service; I have to go Google the place and went in my car
Locality great. Excellent base for the city centre. Short walking distance to the Shambles. Situated on a street full of bars, cafes and restaurants.

Room Comfortable and clean. Aware of negative reviews but we weren't expecting the Ritz as it was considerably cheaper than other York hotels.
We would definitely stay again.
