One of the best hotels in the world. Just perfect. I love to stay here. Gorgeous rooms, stunning views, great staff and restaurants. It's such a hub for the city and you feel in the middle of things and you can walk everywhere from there downtown or Zamalek or Giza, which is saying something in Cairo. The staff are so professional but also warm and lovely. Especially Bessan who maintained the room beautifully. I have visited the others and stayed in many of them but this is the best hotel in the city.

FAQs about hotels in Cairo

Resting Place of Pharaohs

Born of an ancient civilisation, Cairo is a vast metropolis centred around the Nile. Its sheer scale can feel overwhelming (especially when flying over it into Cairo Airport), so plan ahead. An obvious starting point are the Giza Pyramids. Although the pharaohs are long gone, the grandeur of their burial pyramids, the Sphinx and Solar Boat are testament to their ambition.

The city’s Egyptian Museum houses a dazzling display of ancient Egyptian artefacts, including finds from Tutankhamun’s tomb in Luxor. Around the corner is Tahrir, a huge square and focal point of the 2011 Egyptian Revolution.

East is Islamic Cairo, home to 9th-century Ibn Tulun Mosque, Al-Azhar Mosque (site of the world’s oldest university), and the Khan el-Khalili souk – remember to haggle. The Citadel, with its elegant Mohammed Ali Pasha Mosque, sits on a hill offering far-reaching city views.

If you want to step out of cultural tours, take a Nile cruise by felucca, spot wildlife in Wadi Digla desert park or visit Egypt’s top theme parks: Dream Park and Magic Land, where you can tour Egyptian TV studios.

Before heading to your Cairo accommodation, sample the local cuisine – the falafel and fuul (bean paste) are delicious. Turkish coffee is a staple and there are hundreds of shisha bars, while major Cairo hotels have bars serving alcohol.

Obviously, you go to Egypt for the history, it is...

Obviously, you go to Egypt for the history, it is magnificent. Local food is fantastic, it's delicious and you get more than plenty (get out of the hotels, the local places and thousands of times better and cheaper). The Pyramids are one of the wonders of the world so you should see them once in your life. The main downside to Egypt in general is the hassle you will get as a tourist, it is neverending, they do not take no for an answer and will follow you down the street for as long as possible. We had an awful-looking horse and carriage (it was 45 degrees Celsius out and the house was in very poor condition) follow us for over 30 minutes offering us a ride, it was harassing, we had told him no many times in English and Arabic (very firmly by towards the end), in the end we had to cross a very busy multi-lane street so we could walk into the oncoming traffic to get rid of him. If you are a woman and not completely covered from head to toe you will be catcalled all day, every 30 seconds regardless if you have a man with you or not (I ain't small either), the locals will openly gawk at you, whistle and call. You will be scammed, everything has to be haggled for and they will want sky-high prices, you have to be brutal when you haggle and haggle for absolutely everything. It is very exhausting. Even after haggling and completing whatever it is, they will then ask you for a tip and be upset when you tell them no or offended because you didn't give them more and will openly ask for a figure (I'm not cheap, this happened every time regardless of how much I gave).

No doubt Cairo is a historical city in wide country.

No doubt Cairo is a historical city in wide country. Active city 24/7. Many nationalities and people from around the world are there. Cafes and restaurants amazing. I enjoyed walking around on foot than taking taxies or Uber. I have enjoyed trying many street food while walking. Although it could be not healthy but I don’t care. 🤷‍♂️

Cairo is a big busy city, full of friendly people who are always willing to help the lost tourist. The Metro system is excellent, buses are plentiful and taxis are cheap. I've been there five times so far and will go again. Traffic is dense, but no worse than most modern cities. You may find the friendliness of the people a little overwhelming and intimidating, but don't worry. They have no ulterior motive and are only trying to be helpful. The Egyptians are probably the friendliest people in the world, and that's coming from an Irishman!

I stayed two days and you don't need any longer to walk...

I stayed two days and you don't need any longer to walk through the city centre, visit the mosques and go to the pyramids and egyptian museum. The pyramids are impressive but the rest of it is not worth it given the awful treatment from the people here and the abuse to horses and camels in the area. I ended up spending more than double the money I had budgeted because of hidden costs and lack of transparency with prices and what is actually included with each entry ticket. It's the first time I firmly believe I don't want to return to a city I've visited. They don't respect their own inheritance and the security staff of all attractions are there to encourage you to skip the rules so that you slide them a bit of cash. They'd even let you get inside the pharaonic sarcophagus for a fiver if they think nobody else is looking (I've seen it). Also there's so many people harassing you in the street just because you're a tourist. It's sad to see how people are so driven to squeeze all the money out of you. And they're unashamed about it. No intention to make you feel at home.

A beautiful history and culture, but you really need a guide...

A beautiful history and culture, but you really need a guide and driver to go anywhere, be it the crazy traffic or just understanding what's being said to you, you can't get around without the combination of both. Depending on your interests, you can spend about 3-4 days in the actual city center, a day trip to Alexandria being about a 3,5 hour drive two ways is also an option for another day here. If you want to really experience the local culture you need a good guide to take you under their wings, if they show you around you will generally be able to see and experience live in the city as it is. Going out into the street alone you will be harassed by locals nonstop, going out alone is not recommended. For those interested in a cruise on the Nile, you have the dinner cruise that's entirely for tourists, which is interesting but a total cash grab. I much more recommend you take a sailboat on the river, they are many times calmer and also not as scammy.

We had the most amazing stay at Pyramids View Inn. As a group of 5, we booked three rooms for two nights. The location is amazing and the views superb, ability to walk to shops and restaurants, breakfast on the rooftop with delicious. The Pyramids View Inn is in no way a 5 star hotel. It is basic accommodation with basic amenities. What it lacks in "class" it makes up for in authenticity and I highly recommend it for people with a sense of adventure wanting a true Egyptian experience close to everything Giza has to offer.

I chose Radisson because it's so close to the airport (I arrived late and didn't want to drive on at night). The interior design (lobby with "open" patio, rooms etc.) was very attractive and fully correspond with the 4-5 star rating of the hotel. The selection of dishes for breakfast was also very good (except for the missing orange juice). Upon check out with the quality manager (by chance), she was really interested in learning what they could do to improve in my rating (I said I would give an 8 of 10).

My time at the hotel was really good. The service was excellent, and Marwan, a guy who works there, was super helpful. He made me feel safe in a new country and gave me good advice about avoiding tricky situations in Egypt. Whenever I needed something, he was quick to help. They cleaned my room every day, paying attention to small details. The water there was the best I’ve had in Egypt. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. Thanks for a fantastic experience!

The hotel is in a quiet area but not far from the centre. The room was convenient and clean. The breakfast is basic but enough. You have three choices between continental, Egyptian and waffle. The Egyptian is the best. We loved the restaurant next to Nile and the garden for relaxing. People who work there are polite and helpful. If you want to move around just download Uber. The cost of the taxi is 1 to 2 euros to most areas.
