A thoroughly liveable city, Melbourne has a buzzy vibe and an Aussie sense of fun. There’s always something going on, and one of its many festivals is Moomba – Australia’s largest free arts festival. Well worth a visit are the National Gallery of Victoria and the Melbourne Aquarium, whose highlight is walking through a clear tunnel as sharks swim over your head.
The city’s most recognisable landmark is Flinders Street Station, whose yellow and green façade matches the colour of the historic Melbourne trams that still run around the world’s longest tram network. Keep an eye out for the street art as you travel.
Shopping in Melbourne is fantastic. Queen Victoria Market is the largest open-air market south of the Equator, while the La Trobe Street shopping centre has over 300 stores. For food, don’t miss Little Italy - the Carlton area.
South of the Yarra River is St Kilda, home to the best beach and Albert Park, where the F1 Australian Grand Prix is held. However, this is not the city’s only sporting heritage. It’s also the home of Aussie Rules football and the MCG, a must-see for cricket fans.
Booking.com has a range of Melbourne accommodation from hotels to hostels and motels, some near Melbourne Airport.
The Tram system is good for getting around the downtown core...
The Tram system is good for getting around the downtown core. There is an area called the Green Zone. You can ride free in this area. Lots of stores and museums to see. The people were very friendly and helpful. They even stop at cross walks. (I know this sounds silly but here in Toronto the drivers do not always stop. If you are renting a car, do it online, it's cheaper. We rented one from SIXT, there were very friendly and reasonable

We all loved Melbourne, however having 2 autistic children...
We all loved Melbourne, however having 2 autistic children it was at times overwhelming, in particular the Queen Victoria Winter Market, was hard to move through with all the people. Most of the main attractions we did visit and loved. The amount of road works was crazy. One thing my children commented on was the people are not as friendly as Tassie, we are use to smiling and saying hello to passers by, with that reciprocated, but that does not happen in Melbourne.

4 days were the best family road trip.
4 days were the best family road trip. Twice i took the wrong turn on M1 highway (despite GPS on my phone and Tomtom guiding me). Lots to eat and lots to do. Just 3 hours away from snow capped mountains. Will definitely go again.

Love Melbourne city, always a large selection of exhibitions...
Love Melbourne city, always a large selection of exhibitions, galleries, river tours available. Love the riverbank bars and restaurants and South bank shore walk. Trams are great and cover all every area of Melbourne, free travel in Zone one, makes it so easy to get around.
Recommend a great Italian restaurant in Little Bourke St, '+39 Pizzeria', homemade pasta, great menu, great service. Good counter meals at the 'Elephant & Wheelbarrow' (Bourke St) and 'The Charles Dickens Tavern' (underground) in the Block Arcade (old place, good food) The 'Hophaus', German bar on Southbank, good beer, cider and food. Step back in time in 'Collins Coffee House' corner of Collins and Queens Streets. Beautiful Gothic building, houses the 'Banking Museum' and history of the ANZ bank, worth a look, Coffee. high tea and history all in one place.

Melbourne is huge
Melbourne is huge
It can be very confusing what trains to catch and where they go
make sure you have an app or map, timetable to help get around the city
inside the city route the train is free
the markets are huge and with lots of variety of things to buy
the little cafe by Marvel Stadium is the best place to buy food with very friendly staff
The location is perfect. Situated in the heart of the CBD. Tram stop out at the front door which makes it easy to get around the city. The rooms are quiet generous in size. Blossom’s Roof top bar make delicious pizza’s which go down well with a cocktail and the staff are very helpful. We travel to Melbourne every year to watch footy and have stayed at a lot of different hotels. There is lots of walking involved to get to them. I think we have found the perfect location. This is our second stay here and I know we will return again.
Location was great & reception staff were really fantastic. Enthusiastic & helpful for where the main shopping & DFO locations were in the city. We caught an Uber to/from the hotel from the airport & otherwise walked the CBD. Hotel was a block from the central train station under the main shopping complex. Really good restaurants & shopping mall nearby, as well as princess theatre & her majesties theatre a 10 minute walk away (we went to both for shows during our stay!)
Great location for walking in all directions around Melbourne CBD. Very close to the Vic Markets and Southern Cross Station. Very clean rooms. Friendly, helpful staff. We stayed in the attached apartments building rather than the hotel so it was a bit more like an air b'n'b experience. The apartment was small but felt spacious, it was clean and comfortable for four adults.
Thank you Spencer Street Apartments for hosting my family as it was great Experience. It clean, specious and secure apartment melbourne CBD. Closed to Free tram zone, Victoria market and southern crossing station. I have stayed before somewhere but this is really cleaner apartment and felt better then home. Staff was amazing. Great Service.
1. Downstairs grocery store
2. A brand-new, modern apartment
3. Melbourne CBD apartments with a midrange price range
4. Reliable shower water pressure
5. There is good security
6. 6 minutes to free tram station on foot
