A thoroughly liveable city, Melbourne has a buzzy vibe and an Aussie sense of fun. There’s always something going on, and one of its many festivals is Moomba – Australia’s largest free arts festival. Well worth a visit are the National Gallery of Victoria and the Melbourne Aquarium, whose highlight is walking through a clear tunnel as sharks swim over your head.
The city’s most recognisable landmark is Flinders Street Station, whose yellow and green façade matches the colour of the historic Melbourne trams that still run around the world’s longest tram network. Keep an eye out for the street art as you travel.
Shopping in Melbourne is fantastic. Queen Victoria Market is the largest open-air market south of the Equator, while the La Trobe Street shopping centre has over 300 stores. For food, don’t miss Little Italy - the Carlton area.
South of the Yarra River is St Kilda, home to the best beach and Albert Park, where the F1 Australian Grand Prix is held. However, this is not the city’s only sporting heritage. It’s also the home of Aussie Rules football and the MCG, a must-see for cricket fans.
Booking.com has a range of Melbourne accommodation from hotels to hostels and motels, some near Melbourne Airport.
Loved walking around the city. First of all it felt huge and we walked and walked but by the end of the week we had the main city pretty sussed. So much to do and see, you will never see all of it in a week. So many shopping outlets and stores, restaurants and food places. Make sure to look down those little side alleys - can guarantee we wouldn't even of found a quarter of them, there are so many!! Make use of the free Trams too.

Melbourne CBD is alive at night with great shows and many fabulous little restaurants with an extensive variety of cuisines.
We found some wonderful little "hidden bars", so it will be a feature on each visit to locate more!
Melbourne restaurants and bars are great value for money and easy to get to in the CBD.

The Tram system is good for getting around the downtown core. There is an area called the Green Zone. You can ride free in this area. Lots of stores and museums to see. The people were very friendly and helpful. They even stop at cross walks. (I know this sounds silly but here in Toronto the drivers do not always stop. If you are renting a car, do it online, it's cheaper. We rented one from SIXT, there were very friendly and reasonable

We all loved Melbourne, however having 2 autistic children it was at times overwhelming, in particular the Queen Victoria Winter Market, was hard to move through with all the people. Most of the main attractions we did visit and loved. The amount of road works was crazy. One thing my children commented on was the people are not as friendly as Tassie, we are use to smiling and saying hello to passers by, with that reciprocated, but that does not happen in Melbourne.

4 days were the best family road trip.
4 days were the best family road trip. Twice i took the wrong turn on M1 highway (despite GPS on my phone and Tomtom guiding me). Lots to eat and lots to do. Just 3 hours away from snow capped mountains. Will definitely go again.
The service from the majority of the staff was fabulous. Especially the entrance security staff member, and the staff member who valeted our hire car for us. Both extremely helpful & lovely gentlemen.
The hotel itself was amazing, as you would hope, such a quirky, lux, industrial feel - loved it. Also a great location, very central. Love how Melbourne CBD is very walkable for a large city.
The proximity of these apartments to both the pleasures of Southbank and South Melbourne, as well as having super easy access to the CBD and Docklands is wonderful. It's great to have cooking facilities. Also, I had a minor emergency at 1:00am and they had help to me within 20 minutes - it was fabulous.
This is our preferred accommodation in Melbourne CBD. The apartments are a really good size. Much bigger than what you get in a traditional hotel. The location is brilliant. Don’t think we could find anything better.
Quest apartments Bayside St Kilda is a 20 minute tram ride to the Melbourne CBD and walking distance to the Port Philip Bay beaches and Acland Street Village.
