At the meeting point of Australia’s Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast, laidback Brisbane is spread around the meandering river running through it. The river’s arty South Bank is home to Australia’s largest modern art gallery, tranquil gardens and an artificial beach. Just opposite is the towering skyline of Brisbane's CBD, where many hotels in Brisbane city centre are located.
Nearby are the botanic gardens and Queen Street Mall, the most popular Brisbane shopping spot. More shopping centres are found all over the city, and the out-of-town malls include one in the Indooroopilly suburb by the foothills of Mount Coot-tha.
This green hill offers fabulous city views and has a planetarium, nature reserve and yet more botanic gardens. In Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary to the south you can hug one of the loveable animals, while Australia Zoo – Steve Irwin’s legacy – is a good day trip.
Brisbane is a very leafy city and one of its parks – Wickham Park – contains the Old Windmill, Brisbane’s oldest building. To the north-east, the Fortitude Valley suburb is known for its vibrant music scene and Chinatown. Across the river in Woolloongabba is The Gabba or Brisbane Cricket Ground, and nearby is the bohemian West End district.
As well as central accommodation, Booking.com also offers hotels near Brisbane Airport in a north-eastern coastal suburb.
Brisbane is overpriced. CBD is a mess at the moment with construction sites everywhere. The restaurants are expensive, though there are some very high quality establishments emerging there. South Bank is a great place for families and couples alike. Best part of the CBD. Howard Smith Wharves are noisy and over rated although there are some great places to eat there. Public transport is unpredictable, People are friendly and the weather is the best. West End, is a great place, diverse, lots of great places to eat and a community vibe. Easy to walk around CBD and South Brisbane. CBD feels safe but needs a complete uplift, very quiet.

Always love Brissy!
Always love Brissy! A city that has a smaller feel, so easy to walk everywhere and usually great weather year round. Good range of restaurants and bars to choose from, good CBD shopping and lovely to sit down by the river for an evening drink.

Loved the Tina Show and the closeness of the museum, art gallery and modern art gallery were fabulous. Food in the adjoining streets was great and varied. Brisbane feels safe compared to similar sized cities in NZ. Great to see police on the beat in all the main areas.

Really enjoyed my stay at Ibis Styles. The hotel is very centrally located in Brisbane cbd, checking in was fast and easy and my room was very clean, modern and comfortable with nice views over the city and river. Bed was comfortable too, water pressure in shower was excellent, and I appreciated having free movies available to watch!
Great location with stunning views. Handy to the Southbank Parklands and other walking paths - eg. Kangaroo cliffs; Botanic Gardens.
Easy walk to many eating places and about 15 minute walk into the CBD (otherwise can catch the free Kitty Cat ferry which departs from the jetty just below the apartments)
Excellent location if going to QPAC. Awesome restaurants and pubs close by - LOVE Southbank Beer Garden and The Pig & Whistle. Beautiful walk across Victoria Bridge over to Brisbane CBD - beautiful breakfast at The Pancake Manor, be sure to book though! The view of the river and city was spectacular.
Brisbane CBD location great for walking to Southbank, Queen St mall. Quiet rooms, very clean & comfortable. Reception always welcoming. We were able to get access to our room early which was great as we arrived on early flight.
Very cool & modern hotel in the CBD overlooking the river and Southbank. Great attention to detail in room fitout. Certainly more interesting & fun than its muted contemporaries. Highly recommend.
