Yield Work Shop Is a Design Oasis in St. Augustine, Florida
“Cool” in St. Augustine, Florida, used to mean seashell art and alligator farms. Thankfully we now have Yield Work Shop, an actually cool housewares retailer featuring products made by designers Andrew Deming and Rachel Gant. They’re bringing together the perfect combination of design and food, and we're obsessed.
I first fell for Yield when I was stationed by their display at a design event last year. I became mesmerized by a peachy mauve glass tabletop with a marbled black base. Then I realized the makers were responsible for my favorite tumblers and French press too—and working just about an hour away from my hometown of Gainesville, Florida. So I tracked down Deming and Gant to talk about the coastal city of St. Augustine, where the couple has established their thriving business. They met in San Francisco while attending California College of the Arts, and the local coffee and food culture inspired art school projects like mugs, and eventually French presses too.
Though Yield Work Shop today churns out glasses, tables, incense, pour-over set-ups, and more, it's only comprised of about eight employees. Gant and Deming design it all. Their newly redesigned retail store is a beautiful curation of their products, in-house candle production, and a thoughtful selection of other designers’ goods. Here Gant takes us through some of her favorite pieces.
