Painswick Rococo Garden

Painswick

Wildlife & Gardens Experience

Experience the great outdoors with a peek into the flamboyant frivolity of the early 1700s in the UK’s only complete surviving rococo garden. Designed as a fanciful pleasure garden for the owner of Painswick House it has been faithfully restored. In 1748, local artist Thomas Robins painted the garden. Little did he know that his painting would be the blueprint for the restoration, more than 200 years later.

Painswick Rococo Garden is renowned as one of the top places to see snowdrops in early spring. However, it is beautiful all year round. In April the focus shifts to tulips and swathes of bluebells and cowslips. May sees the arrival of foxgloves and alliums, whilst June ushers in the lavender. During July and August enjoy shady walks in sun-dappled woodland. September and October herald the move into autumn and the spectacular colours as the trees turn.

There are magical follies, woodland walks, and beautiful views of the Cotswold countryside. Additionally, there is a maze, wooden play area and cafe to enjoy. Whether you’re visiting as a family, a group of friends or a couple – or simply in need of some time alone in nature – you’ll discover a haven of peace and tranquillity, sprinkled with quirky features to surprise and delight you.

The Painswick Rococo Garden is also home to Exedra Nursery. A new, independent plant centre where you will find an inspiring collection of herbaceous perennials. There is a beautiful shop showcasing a range of gardening tools and accessories. Items from Whichford Pottery and an array of stunning Cretan pots will undoubtedly be purchases you want to make!

.

To note: Last entry to the garden is an hour before it closes. Dogs are welcome on short leads.

Known as one of the best places in the Cotswolds to see carpets of snowdrops, Painswick Rococo Garden is a fascinating place to visit all year round.
