Highgrove is the private residence of Their Majesties King Charles III and The Queen Consort, while the house is not open to the public, visitors are welcome to enjoy the beautiful Highgrove gardens from April to October each year.
When King Charles first arrived in 1980 the gardens were little more than empty pastures and an overgrown kitchen garden. It became a personal passion for the king, and he devoted much of his time and energy to transforming them into the incredible gardens they are today. The gardens are managed and maintained organically and sustainably, and the King was a huge advocate for the idea of organic growing, long before it became popular. The Highgrove Gardens comprise a varied collection of landscapes. From the genteel Sundial Garden to the unstructured beauty of the Wildflower Meadow. For traditional Cotswold flora, look to the Cottage Garden where the English traditional style meets the colours of Tibet. These unusual nuances create an exceptional and ethereal environment, and one you aren’t sure to forget.
There is a range of guided tours available. This is a great way to learn more about the history of Highgrove, the inspiration for the gardens and the management and upkeep that goes into them. You can book private or group tours and for something special, the champagne tea tour is a memorable experience. After a 1 ½ hour guided tour, you can enjoy a champagne afternoon tea in the Orchard Room. Feast on sandwiches and delicious cakes accompanied by a glass of Highgrove champagne. After your visit browse the shop in the Coronation Pavilion. The selection of bespoke products includes homeware, accessories, food and artwork, all designed exclusively for Highgrove.
To note: The gardens are wheelchair and mobility-scooter-friendly. Only assistance and guide dogs are allowed.
