Stranded yacht becomes unlikely tourist attraction in Valencia

11 June 2024 • Written by Dea Jusufi

The 24.6-metre Sanlorenzo yacht Nordic Lily has been salvaged following a grounding in Pinedo Beach, Valencia. The superyacht was beached for several days as a result of a water leak and is now safely docked at Real Club Nautico Valencia, according to BOATPro

According to an official statement released by the Ministry of Transport, authorities were unable to authorise towing until temporary repairs were carried out to ensure the safe refloating of the vessel. Meanwhile, Nordic Lily became an unexpected attraction for those spending their weekend along the Spanish promenade.

An investigation into the cause of the grounding is underway, with the Ministry of Transport claiming it will open a disciplinary "if it detects negligence on the part of the captain of the yacht". On 3 June, the captain was evacuated by helicopter to La Fe hospital as a result of illness. Two other crew remain on board.

Nordic Lily belongs to the entry-level Sanlorenzo SL78 series. The model is characterised by a fibreglass planing hull, cutaway bulwarks and a maximum speed of 30 knots. Other highlights include floor-to-ceiling windows in the main saloon and a floating staircase, which links the main deck to the upper deck.

The extent of the yacht's damage is unknown. BOAT International will update the story as it develops.
