Consultant Orthopaedic surgeon - with special interest in Lower Limb.
Hours per week - 10 Programmed Activities per week - Perm/Fixed Term - Permanent
Salary - £99,532-£131,964

You must either be on the specialist register or due to obtain a relevant CCT/CESR(CP) within 6 months.
The department has seen a sustained increase in the volume of referrals over the past year and to comply with the 18-week pathway and ambulatory pathways to manage the extra demand it has now become necessary to permanently increase the staffing levels.
The post-holder will be expected to take an active interest in Hip and Knee surgery (inc. Revision surgery).. The candidate will provide the relevant training and advice to fellow consultants to maintain the service.
An on-call commitment is required. The current rota is a 1:8 with 1:8 weekend commitment. The consultant on call rota is based on a daily rota as opposed to a whole week. When on call during the week, the elective work carries on as normal.

- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with medical colleagues in other specialties and participate in regular clinical meetings and other post graduate activities.
- Develop and maintain good communications with General practitioners and appropriate external agencies.
- Participate in the development of the care of patients arriving as emergencies.
- Participate and encourage two-way communications encompassing briefing systems as appropriate.
- Comply with all relevant Trust Policies and Procedures.
- Ensure that all trust wide standards are maintained to improve the quality of total care to all who meet services provided by GEH.

Qualifications and Professional Training
Essential
- MB ChB, or equivalent
- FRCS (Tr & Orth) or equivalent
- Full GMC registration
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT or CESR (CP) - proposed CCT/CESR (CP) date must be within 6 months of interview / European community rights
- Fellowship in Knee Surgery and Revision Lower Limb Arthroplasty Surgery
Desirable
- ATLS or equivalent
Experience and Knowledge
Essential
- Fellowship training and experience in knee surgery, revision arthroplasty and complex trauma / peri-prosthetic fracture management.
- Ability to do general trauma, peri-prosthetic fractures, complex fractures, and shoulder fractures.
- Experience and interest in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
- Understanding of clinical governance
- Skills in information technology
Desirable
- Working as a Consultant - Locum or substantive
Skill and Abilities
Essential
- Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT / CESR in T& O.
- Evidence of training in appropriate sub-specialty - Lower Limb Surgery and Complex Trauma
- Must have wide range of clinical experience in Orthopaedics both elective and emergency.
- Appropriate level of experience either at Consultant or Senior Grade.
- Substantial experience in Orthopaedic Trauma surgery
