Bound 4K(1996)
Tough ex-con Corky and her lover Violet concoct a scheme to steal millions of stashed mob money and pin the blame on Violet's crooked boyfriend Caesar. For more about Bound 4K and the Bound 4K Blu-ray release, see Bound 4K Blu-ray Review published by Dr. Svet Atanasov on May 5, 2024 where this Blu-ray release scored 4.5 out of 5. The 4K Blu-ray is Region-Free. However, the Blu-ray is Region-A "locked". Please note that some of the screencaptures that appear with this article are taken from the 4K Blu-ray and downscaled to 1080p. Therefore, they do not accurately reflect the quality of the 4K content on the 4K Blu-ray disc, including the actual color values of this content. Screencaptures #1-22 are from the Blu-ray. Screencaptures #26-33 are from the 4K Blu-ray. Bound is a film a like a lot, so over the years I acquired multiple home video releases of it for my library. They are all pretty good, but this upcoming release introduces an exclusive new 4K makeover that gives the film the most attractive appearance. All visuals look very nicely balanced as well. What does this mean exactly? On the previous releases, occasionally it is easy to see highlights or darker nuances that are a bit off. The new 4K makeover eliminates these inconsistencies. In a few areas, density levels are superior as well, so even on a very large screen, the entire film now looks terrific. Color balance is excellent. In fact, this is another area where small but meaningful improvements in terms of saturation and balance make certain visuals look better than they did in the past. In native 4K, the 4K makeover can be viewed with Dolby Vision and HDR grades. I viewed it with Dolby Vision, which handles the darker indoor and brighter outdoor footage very well. In 1080p, the same areas look marvelous as well, but I think that fluidity is just a tad better in native 4K. There are no traces of problematic digital corrections. The entire film looks spotless as well. All in all, I think that Bound finally looks as it should, so I could not be happier that it entered the Criterion Collection. Bound 4K Blu-ray, Audio Quality![]() There is only one standard audio track on this release: English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. Optional English SDH subtitles are provided for the main feature. The 5.1 track is outstanding. Clarity, sharpness, depth, and stability are very good. I suspect that it was fully remastered when the video makeover was finalized as well. However, I would have preferred to have the 2.0 track that has appeared on previous releases as well. While nostalgia probably has something to do with it, I tend to like it slightly better than the 5.1 track. Bound: Other Editions
