The Philippines said it successfully evacuated a sick Navy personnel from its outpost in the South China Sea days ago despite attempts by Chinese ships to block the mission.

Philippine vessels faced “numerous obstructing and delaying maneuvers” by China Coast Guard during an emergency medical evacuation on July 7, according to a statement on Tuesday by the Southeast Asian nation’s coast guard.
