The man, 47, from Chorley, was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in charge of a motor vehicle. When in custody, he gave a reading of 147.

A spokesperson for police said: “We will not tolerate people driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. It is dangerous, and can change so many lives in an instant.

“Driving impaired is a choice. You choose to get in your vehicle and endanger lives, including your own.

“So, think about that before you consider getting in your car under the influence of drink or drugs. If you suspect someone is drink or drug driving it is really important that you report it to us.”
