A 'do not eat' warning has been issued after salmonella was found 'in some batches' of a popular meal ingredient. The product, sold in various UK shops and supermarkets has now been recalled, with the Food Standards Agency (FSA) urging customers to return it for a 'full refund'.
AB World Foods Ltd has recalled 160g jars of Al’Fez Natural Tahini with batch codes 3355, 4004, 4023, 4024, 4039, 4040. The affected products would have a best-before date of June 2025, July 2025, or August 2025.
The FSA said salmonella had been found in "some batches of the product" and warned that symptoms caused by salmonella "usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps". The NHS said salmonella was a common cause of food poisoning and "symptoms usually pass within a week".

According to the FSA, point of sale notices would be displayed in stores where the product was sold. It added: "These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product."
