Bargain Hunt's John Cameron has given fans an update on his health following a heart attack. The TV personality was rushed to hospital last week, just before he was due to start filming for the popular BBC daytime show.

John fell ill just 10 minutes before he was set to begin shooting Bargain Hunt. He was taken by ambulance to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth where he underwent emergency surgery to place a stent, a wire mesh tube that acts as a scaffold to keep your artery open.

On social media, John thanked the NHS for saving his life. He is now recuperating at home with his pet dog for company.

The antiques expert shared a charming photo on Instagram of him playing with his puppy, Polly, captioned: "Today I will be mostly playing with Polly the Puppy. #borderterrier #supportthenhs." His friends and followers were delighted to see John up and about, smiling as he cuddled the adorable Poppy from his sofa.

In reference to his recent health scare, John wore a T-shirt featuring an ECG heartbeat line and the phrase, 'The beat goes on'. One follower, wb1327, commented: "Just heard the news regarding your operation. I hope you are on the mend and raring to go again real soon."

Joansimpson759 wrote: "I hope you are feeling much better, take care of yourself". This follows a picture John posted from his hospital bed last week when he was surrounded by wires but still managing to give a thumbs up.

John captioned his post: "On a day when junior doctors stage a one day strike over back pay, I would like to pledge my support and say a huge thank you to the St Mary's hospital drop-in centre, the paramedics "Jess" and "Cat" who transported me to Queen Alexandra Hospital with sirens blaring, and the amazing emergency team in theatre who fitted me with a stent unblocking the artery that caused me to have a heart attack just 10 minutes before I was about to film a BBC Bargain Hunt auction at my firm Nesbits in Southsea. Not sure how many of my 9 lives still remain but I definitely lost one yesterday.

"To quote the great ancient Chinese philosopher Confucius, 'We have two lives, the second one begins when you realise you only have one.' I will now be switching to a more friendly and renewable light source over the candle I have been burning at both ends! Sorry also to my wife, children, grandchildren, staff and friends for scaring the "Eartha Kitt" out of them."

As part of his recovery efforts, John revealed he has given up smoking and pledged to significantly cut down his drinking. In addition, he will increase his physical fitness routine jokingly referencing a gym membership he had held onto, but hadn't used for years.

In the next stage of his recovery, he plans to get back on his scooter and motorcycle, he shared with his fans. Besides his role on Bargain Hunt, John is a well-known BBC personality who has appeared in numerous other shows. He has also presented Cash In The Attic and Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is.
