Perry Barr residents reported hearing a "loud bang" in the early hours of this morning shortly before police sealed off a pavement outside their homes. A police cordon was put in place in Walsall Road, opposite Tower Hill Medical Practice.
A number of police vehicles were spotted at the scene and officers were pictured carrying out enquires. A resident, who would not be named, told our reporter at the scene she heard a "loud bang".
She said the noise was heard in the early hours of today, July 8. Another local also said they heard a loud noise in the early hours of this morning which they thought was a car backfiring.

They told us: "About 1.30am to 1.45am - I thought it was a car backfiring so I thought nothing of it. I woke up this morning and it was all cordoned off. This is scaring me...I’m moving away from here.”
Another resident added: "My son messaged me at 6.48am and said it was all cordoned off. It’s a busy road and all you hear is traffic. It’s a diverse road.”
Our reporter at the scene said: "There’s is a police incident ongoing on Walsall Road, Perry Barr, this morning. The site is opposite the Tower Hill Surgery. There is police tape across a section of houses and pavement, with forensics examining a home."
The exact nature of the incident was not clear at time of publication. Paramedics were not called to the scene, according to a spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service.
