A Birmingham street was cordoned off for several hours after a man climbed onto the roof of a homeless centre. The man sparked concerns as he was spotted on the top of William Booth Centre in Newtown on Monday morning (July 8).
Police taped off a section of Shadwell Street, near to William Booth Lane, after officers were alerted to the incident shortly before 11am. Uniformed officers were seen manning the area while concerned members of the public gathered on the ground below.
Initially, police said officers were working to resolve the incident at the Salvation Army centre, which helps homeless people find housing. Fortunately, after around three hours, the man was safely brought down.

Paramedics on scene assessed the man before taking him to City Hospital. Police say the incident was "resolved safely" and he has now been referred for mental health support.
In the latest statement, the force said: "The man has now come down and the matter resolved safely. He has now been referred to mental health professionals."
West Midlands Ambulance Service sent its incident response unit to the scene, along with an ambulance. A spokesman for the service said: "We were called to reports of concern for a patient’s welfare on William Booth Lane at 10.50am, one ambulance and a Hazardous Area Response Team paramedic attended the scene.
"On arrival we discovered one patient, a man. He was brought to safety and assessed, before being taken to City Hospital."
