Ely Duck Creek Lodge is a truly special place for guests to enjoy

Guests who choose Ely Duck Creek Lodge are in for a great stay on a one-of-a-kind property. The home provides the perfect place for large gatherings or to simply relax and enjoy the five acres of developed grounds and nearby attractions.

The 4,000 square foot house has four bedrooms and three bathrooms. It features two living rooms, a gourmet kitchen, a theater room, and a game room. Anne Kellogg who is one of the current owners notes that “one of the most striking features of the lodge is the two wrap-around decks and the sweeping views of the Duck Creek Basin and Schell Creek Mountain Range.”

Originally built in 1992 by a visionary from Ely named Kenny Heinbaugh, the house sits on 12 acres that were once used as a bullpen. A local legend in Eastern Nevada, Kenny received the property from Kennecott Mining Company for his many years of service running the Kennecott Ranch in Duck Creek Basin. Kenny kept many farm animals on the property including alpacas, llamas, horses, sheep, and more. “Every year he would generously make it available to school children to come out and interact with the animals,” said Kellogg. “Kenny, who was quite an entertainer, also hosted a legendary fall celebration each October.”

Kenny Heinbaugh sold the property to the current owners who spent the better part of 2020 updating the house with a new gourmet kitchen and a modern theater room. The house comes with state-of-the-art internet service for gaming and streaming as well as work if necessary.

The 12-acre property is the perfect place for larger gatherings and special occasions. “The property is available for weddings, board retreats, and parties of all sizes up to 200,” said Kellogg. The house has plenty of space for a any number of guests to enjoy the many features and amenities it offers.

The land itself is special and offers guests a range of activities. “The locals swear that Duck Creek Basin has been a sacred gathering spot for thousands of years because of its majestic beauty and unique landscape,” said Kellogg. “Some members of the Shoshone Tribe still make their home there.”

“The night sky at Duck Creek Basin is one of the best places in the state to stargaze,” said Kellogg. She goes on to say that it is in official Dark Sky designated territory and that when guests look up at the sky it seems like they can reach out and touch the stars. These stellar views are spectacular with the naked eye and are even better with a telescope.

Kellogg also said that there are three campgrounds in Duck Creek Basin and that guests have access to hundreds of miles of off-road trails from the house. There are plenty of opportunities to see wildlife such as deer, elk, hawks, eagles, falcons, rabbits, and other mountain creatures. The property is located in Nevada’s Section 111 which is one of the top places in the state to hunt elk and deer.

The surrounding area also offers much for guests to enjoy. “Some of the nearby places to visit include McGill, Nevada which features a historic swimming hole along with the McGill Drugstore Museum and the town itself was built by the Kennecott Mining Company,” Kellogg said.

Guests can also journey to Ely, which is about 15 minutes from McGill and features the Nevada Northern Railway Museum, Ely’s Central Theater, a golf course, and fairgrounds. The downtown also includes four casinos and other attractions including the Hotel Nevada and Gambling Hall that originally opened in 1925.

The property is also a little over an hour away from Great Basin National Park, the youngest and least visited park in the system. Lehman Caves are a popular feature of the park as well as its many hiking trails.

Staying at Ely Duck Creek Lodge gives guests the opportunity to enjoy a special vacation. The spacious house and large property provide the perfect place to appreciate all that the area has to offer.
