Police said they were called to reports a car had been driven down a footpath

A pedestrian walkway was shut for more than eight hours after a car got stuck in it in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Thames Valley Police said they were called to Botley Road, Oxford, just before 3:30 BST on Sunday to "reports of a man who had driven down a footpath in his vehicle".

A 24-year-old man from Charlbury, Oxfordshire, was arrested on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle dangerously and driving a motor vehicle with alcohol concentration above the prescribed limit, the force said.

He remains in custody. The car has been removed.

Thames Valley Police has asked anyone with information to come forward.
