Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers, running unopposed for reelection, does not answer Republic Q&A

Glendale voters will participate in a local mayor’s race during the upcoming election. However, they’ll only have one choice come July 30: incumbent Mayor Jerry Weiers.

He’s running unopposed for a fourth consecutive term.

Following the election, he’ll lead a City Council that will see at least one new face and one incumbent return. Voters in a third contested race will decide between a longtime incumbent and a newcomer.

With Weiers at the helm, the slate of new and returning officials will have a four-year opportunity to capitalize on Glendale’s growing economy while continuing to contend with homelessness.

Ahead of the early voting period, The Arizona Republic asked each candidate about their desire to run for local office, plans to manage city finances and ideas on tackling Glendale’s homelessness issue.

Weiers did not submit responses to our questions.

Early voting began July 3. Voters can check on the status of their mailed-in ballot on Maricopa County’s website at https://elections.maricopa.gov/voting/voter-dashboard-login. Those who choose to vote by mail are advised to mail their ballot by July 23 or drop it off at a ballot drop-off location or voting location by July 30.
