Of course the Grand Canyon makes the contenders list for top road trips in Arizona. The natural marvel attracts visitors from across the globe. Only about a six hour drive from Phoenix, this destination is definitely worth the trip for residents.

Puerto Peñasco, also known as "Arizona's Beach", is a fishing port in Sonora, Mexico. About a four hour drive from Phoenix with beautiful sandy beaches and restaurants serving fresh seafood, it's a popular summer destination for Arizona residents.

Two and a half hours from Phoenix by car, Flagstaff puts you in the heart of Arizona's high country. With cool summer temps, excellent hikes and historic downtown, this destination is also an excellent spot for stargazing.

A visit to the red rocks of Sedona is almost always a good idea. Pictures don't do justice to the landscapes and its notable landmarks like Cathedral Rock, Bell Rock and the Chapel of the Holy Cross. It doesn't hurt that it's only two hours from Phoenix.

A six-hour drive from Phoenix it would be worth it to visit San Diego for the sunsets alone but the city also comes with SeaWorld San Diego, the famous San Diego Zoo and La Jolla Cove.

Payson is just a quick jaunt (less than two hours) from Phoenix but feels like a whole other world with its lush forests and cool lakes. This destination is an excellent spot for horseback riding, hiking, fishing and camping.

Pinetop-Lakeside, about 3 hours from Phoenix, gives visitors their choice of 65 lakes and streams. It's perfect for watersports in the summer and cozy cabins and skiing in the winter.
