A new startup wants to help you eliminate all waste when going to the bathroom, so they created bamboo-based sustainable toilet paper.
Earlier this year, Cloud Paper announced that its $5 million funding drew investments from some power players including Bezos Expeditions, Jeff Bezos’ personal investment company, the Seattle Times reported.
Others in the industry that gravitated towards the company’s “bamboo-based” paper products that are “soft, strong, and lint-free,” included Ashton Kutcher, Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, and Seattle Seahawks quarterback and wife Ciara.
The goal was to save the amount of trees being cut down for products used in bathrooms and kitchens all around the world.
Founded in 2019 by ex-Uber and Convoy employees, the Seattle-based company began selling the sustainable paper in the mid-2020’s at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw a demand for toilet paper skyrocket. Shelves were empty as people hoarded two-ply amid the shortage or sold it way above market price.
“Over this past year, we’ve seen and heard how much the environment means to our customers, and saving it through a small paper product switch is an easy way to make sustainability feel attainable for everyone,” Ryan Fritsch, co-founder of Cloud Paper, said in a statement.

The company revealed that an average person flushes one tree down the toilet every year. In 2021 alone, they spared about 10,000 trees with the pledge to save 22,000 trees in 2022.
The website claims: “If everybody in the USA switched to bamboo toilet paper and paper towels, we would save 526 million trees every year.”
The best seller includes 24 rolls of toilet paper that are 3-ply and “sourced from FSC-certified farms and bleached totally chlorine-free” for $34.99.
