When it comes to being an animal activist, Alicia Silverstone is definitely not clueless.
The actress recently wrote a heartfelt letter to Farm Sanctuary – America’s premier farm animal sanctuary and advocacy organization – to show her support for their annual initiative, Adopt a Farm Animal Mother’s Day campaign.
Mind you, Silverstone, 45, named her young son Bear, so that's just one clue as to what a big supporter of animals the “Clueless” actress is.
“One of the greatest and most rewarding things in my life,” she wrote, “has been being a mom to Bear.” She adds that one of their family’s “very favorite things to do” is visit the rescued animals at Farm Sanctuary.

But beyond fun family outings, Silverstone sees the Sanctuary as another way to raise her child with an “awareness of animal sentience and compassion” not only for house pets but for the entire animal kingdom.
Silverstone says that has been “my bedrock of being a Kind Mama.”
Silverstone and Farm Sanctuary hope that when you think of Mother’s Day, it’s not just of the human kind. Farm Sanctuary rescues animals who, as Silverstone says, “just want to love their babies and are robbed of the opportunity to exercise their maternal instinct because of human greed and exploitation in factory farming.”
Her letter isn’t just a thank you note but a plea to others to adopt one of the rescued animals.
“This Mother’s Day,” she writes, “will you join me in adopting Olive and Maggie goats, Hayes cow, or Amari, Laura, and Bailey sheep? Your gift allows Farm Sanctuary to continue the life-saving work it does in animal rescue, and helps to nurture a new generation of young people who are inspired to create change.”
For a one-time donation of $35, you can help save one of them, or as Farm Sanctuary suggests, it would make a very timely gift for moms and mother-figures. Adopters receive a digital certificate featuring their chosen family that can be printed out for themselves or their gift recipient.
