Evan says Yankees should check in on potential Jazz Chisholm trade

According to multiple reports, the Marlins are making Jazz Chisholm available in trade talks with the deadline just three weeks away.

Chisholm is hovering around league-average numbers for the second straight season, batting .255 with 10 home runs in 87 games, and durability has been an issue, as he has played less than 100 games in 2022 and 2023. But if the price is right, Evan says the Yankees should look to make a move.

“I happen to think Jazz Chisholm is one of the most overrated players in Major League Baseball,” Evan said. “But he’s young, he’s athletic, he can steal a base, which the Yankees haven’t done in like six and a half years.

“He’s a very versatile player. He’s played center field the last few years, but we know he can play second base and shortstop. And he’s got pizzazz. He’s got a little bit of that pizzazz…if he came to New York City, he might excel here. He might need that.”

Chisholm was an All-Star in 2022 but played in just 60 games, and hasn’t been able to get back to that level since. The 26-year-old isn’t a free agent until 2027, and brings a certain energy that Evan says could be good for the slumping Yankees, who could use another bat or another infielder, for the right price of course.

“Am I trading a Spencer Jones for him? No,” Evan said. “But I’d have a conversation.”
