Boomer: Aaron Judge needs to step up and call Yankees out for 'dogging it'

As the Yankees continue to not just slide, but look generally disinterested in the process, Boomer says someone in a leadership role needs to take charge and get loud to wake up a clubhouse that has multiple players “dogging it” on the field.

“Sooner or later, the manager has to say something,” Boomer said. “He has to point these things, out, he has to have a meeting, he has to have people in that locker room watching the video of what’s going on.”

But, more than Boone, Boomer wants to see Aaron Judge step into his captaincy role and call out his teammates that are jogging up the first base line [DJ LeMahieu] or lazily chasing down balls in the outfield [Trent Grisham], and try to spark the team to inspire a more focused and inspired brand of baseball.

“He’s a great player. He’s another one, if you ask him and interview him, he says the same thing after every game. ‘It’s a long season,’” Boomer said. “Yes, it’s a long season, but three of your teammates are dogging it.

“You can’t have the Daniel Jones personality. You’re the captain for a reason…after a while, you have a symptom of the team that has taken over in this losing that is going on. You look at that and say, ‘the captain can say something. The captain can go up to Gleyber Torres and say that this isn’t cutting it.’”
