Boomer's Rangers rant after game five loss: 'My head is gonna explode'

Boomer held off on the Rangers talk to begin Friday’s show, but all it took was a gentle nudge by Gio to begin the anticipated rant.

“My head is gonna explode,” Boomer said after his beloved Blueshirts were rocked in game five. “They are getting housed by the Devils. Three guys in particular, and their names aren’t Nico Hischier and Jack Hughes, although those guys are playing well.

“You look at Erik Haula, Timo Meier, and Ondrej Palat, those guys are kicking the living crap out of the Rangers. Those three experienced players are kicking the living crap out of the Rangers.”

Meier hasn’t filled the stat sheet by any means, but his size up front has been paramount to New Jersey turning the season around, and Boomer envies such an impactful pickup, while the Rangers’ deadline acquisitions have been a dud.

“That was a great pickup,” Boomer said. “I said it was one of the great pickups at the trade deadline because he still has a lot to give and is still in the middle of his prime.”

The only player immune from Boomer’s wrath is Igor Shesterkin, who Boomer says was consistently hung out to dry by an underwhelming defensive effort.

“They left him out on a limb once again,” Boomer said. “This is supposed to be a really solid defensive core for the Rangers, but it’s been nothing but an unmitigated disaster…that game should have been 8-0 last night.”
