Allison Bennett Irion is a 2021-2022 Veterans Advanced Energy fellow at the Atlantic Council and a principal systems engineer and group leader for Argonne National Laboratory’s Nuclear/Radiological Proliferation Analysis and Modeling team. She has over fifteen years of experience working on nuclear nonproliferation programs for the US government. Chairing Argonne’s Advanced Supply Chain Analytics Initiative, Irion brings together multidisciplinary teams to address end-to-end supply chain solutions to ensure the supply of materials critical to US strategic interests and deny the supply of proliferation-sensitive goods to adversaries. She co-leads a rare-earth supply chain team that supports the Department of Defense’s Defense Logistics Agency, as well as critical material research for lithium-ion battery supply chains.

With her interest in clean energy alongside nonproliferation, Irion recently launched US Nuclear Nexus, a new tool for the US nuclear industry to connect with the US Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration on the global deployment of US nuclear technology, increasing US competitiveness while integrating nonproliferation features.

Irion serves as a commander in the US Navy Reserve’s Strategic Sealift Program and as a licensed officer in the US Merchant Marine. She holds a master’s degree in systems engineering, focusing on logistics, from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a BS in logistics and intermodal transportation from the US Merchant Marine Academy.
