GuyGear Awards 2023

What is guy gear? It’s a phrase that first appeared on AskMen in 2008 — a way of saying “products for men” that tries to leave a little fuzziness around both the products and the men, perhaps because there are lots of different kinds of men, and lots of different kinds of products. With the first-ever Guy Gear Awards, AskMen is striving to recognize the products out there that are targeted towards men, appreciated by men or useful for men, whether they say “for men” on them or not.

But more than that, we’re looking for products that have a certain “guy” ethos — products that speak to the boys we once were and give them a little frisson of undeniable cool. Products that are “gear,” not “stuff.” Solar-powered watch? Check. Backpack with a million hidden pockets? Check. Sunglasses that look like they belong on a space alien? Check. Figurines of literal space aliens? Check.

Because at the end of the day, a lot of the time, there’s a faintly silly quality to being a guy that far too many men dismiss in favor of being horribly self-serious. The Guy Gear Awards are about capturing a “dudes rock” mentality. You don’t need to be a cis man to appreciate these products; you just need to be a guy. So without further ado, here are the winners of the first-ever AskMen Guy Gear Awards.
