Annie Sloan x Sobell House Hospice

This year Annie was asked to be part of Oxford’s OxTrail to raise funds for Sobell House, a local hospice which has been providing care to the people of Oxfordshire since 1976. The Sobell House Hospice Charity raises funds every year to fund this incredibly valuable work.

This year the fundraising initiative is OxTrail, Oxford’s first ever art sculpture trail, which will take over the city from 6 July 2024 for 8 weeks. The trail consists of 31 life-sized ox sculptures and 107 smaller oxen, painted by local artists, schools, community groups and businesses.

Bodleian Bestiary Bull

Annie is collaborating with The Bodleian Library on a collection of paintings and ceramics inspired by the Bestiaries in the Medieval Collection. Bestiaries are beautifully illustrated books of fabulous beasts. Her Bodleian Bestiary Bull was inspired by the illustrations and painted using Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint in medieval inspired colours.

Golden Calf

Annie has always loved The Adoration of the Golden Calf by the French artist Nicolas Poussin. Painted between 1633 and 1634, it depicts the adoration of the golden calf by the Israelites, from chapter 32 of the Book of Exodus. The golden calf was painted using Annie Sloan’s new metallic gold paint (only available in the US currently) with Chalk Paint for the flowers.

Annie’s oxen were then taken to the Mini Plant, across the road from Annie Sloan HQ, to be coated in a special weatherproof lacquer before being revealed at a VIP event.

The oxen will form a vibrant and family-friendly trail celebrating the wonderful City of Oxford – its history, culture, places, and people.  You can see Annie’s Bodleian Bestiary Bull in Jemini Flower Shop in the Covered Market, and  The Golden Calf at The Sobell House Store in Little Clarendon Street, Oxford.

OxTrail will launch to the public on 6 July 2024 and the art will be on display until early September 2024. You can download the app for £1.99 and unlock over 60 ox-citing reward (including a special discount code for AnnieSloan.com). Search for OxTrail2024 on your app store.

OxTrail is also @oxtrail2024 on Facebook, X, Instagram and TikTok #oxtrail2024

After the eight-week trail, the beautiful oxen will be gathered from their locations to graze in one magnificent herd on 7 to 8 September ready to be auctioned at a final live event to raise funds for Sobell House on 13 September.

To raise more money for the Sobell House Charity, we are also donating £1 for every tin of Oxford Navy (excluding sample pots) sold from 1st July to 30th September.
